This site has successfully been transferred to a new registrar. Woohoo! All's good now.
I'm having trouble transferring this domain away from Registerfly.com to another register. All my other domains transferred successfully and Sailormusic.net is back up, thank goodness. If this site suddenly disappears or gets turned into a link farm, check Sailormusic.net for updates. Hopefully everything will get sorted out soon.
I'm in the process of transferring this domain and my other domains sailormusic.net and astraldream.net to new registrars in light of the current Registerfly.com debacle. I have no idea whether it'll work or not or what's going to happen. Sailormusic.net has already been turned into a link farm - it was to have been renewed on March 10, but that never happened. See Wikipedia for all the gory details of what's happening. If you have a domain registered or hosted thru Registerfly.com, get the heck out if you can. Their accreditation has been revoked as of March 16 and they're going to be shut down by ICANN.
The Calendars were broken, so I fixed 'em. Happy New Year ^_^
I've uploaded added a page for the Parallel Sailormoon manga. Originally I didn't scan these pages in part because I wanted to leave a little incentive for people to buy the book themselves. When the book became harder to find I considered adding them to the site, but sailorvenus.has.it already had them and I was happy to promote her site instead. Then the owner of that site emailed me a while back offered me permission to host her scans! So here they are :-)
Fixed some image links that got broken in the move. From Volume 1: 1-08-09A.jpg, 1-12-13.jpg, 1-19-20A.jpg, 1-19-20B.jpg, 1-27-28A.gif, 1-51-52.jpg
Sorry about the downtime this week. My web host disabled the domain for no apparent reason (this is the second time they've done this) so I've switched to the host I'm using for sailormusic.net. Of course, my e-mail was down as well, so if you sent me mail informing me the site's down - I didn't get it!
I have been rescanning artbook 3 over the past week and uploading the new images as I went. The last few images went up tonight. They're now the same quality and size as #1 and #2. Enjoy!
In my last update I stated that I would no longer be adding new graphics taken from Sailormoon Channel because The Oracle was taking care of that nicely. Ironically, March was the last month that would feature a calendar update and January was the final Princess Room update. In April these two sections were discontinued and a new feature called Moon Prism Box was added, which is basically a manga viewer with music from the live action series playing in the background. I'm rather disappointed, because although Moon Prism Box is a cute flash feature, it's not very interesting after you've played thru everything once. A new chapter from the manga is uploaded every month (not the whole thing, just selected scenes) but who hasn't read that already? I really miss the other sections. I have gone back and added the October 2005-January 2006 Princess Room graphics and the January-March 2006 calendars so these sections are now complete.
I've uploaded the Sailormoon Channel splash pages for Oct/05, Nov/05, and Dec/05. I've decided this will be the last update to the Sailormoon Channel images. I just can't be bothered to check for new stuff every month. I don't feel too guilty though, because The Oracle, one of my affiliates, is archiving all these images too! Please send any donations of missing images to her. You'll find the Sailor Moon Channel section on her site under "Image Galleries".
I'm back online! Finally! Spent the past week trying to get my %$@!#& new wireless network card to work (firmware update was needed, turns out). I was using my BF's computer for the past month to go online, so at least I was able to keep up with my blog reading. Now I can catch up on emails and updates. (Were there any new graphics from sailormoon.channel.or.jp in December? I see a new Princess Corner for January. They're really recyling old art for the homepage, huh?
I am moving this weekend and will be bunking elsewhere until December 15 while repairs are being made to my new digs. My computer will be packed up during that time and I won't have access to my email (probably). I will try to get some updates online when I return. I've just been too busy to upload the new graphics from sailormoon.channel.or.jp this month. Thanks very much to everyone who sent stuff in and informed me of new graphics!
I have completed rescanning artbook 2 (bigger scans, better quality) and am starting on artbook 3. Some of the double-spread illustrations from artbook 2 I will redo later and merge together.
A new batch of artbook edits have come in from Anne (Terralune): 2-14-15, 2-20-21, 2-36-37, 2-46-47, 3-38-39, 4-18-19, 5-04, 5-06. I have also uploaded the June and July calendars and Princess Room images. Still trying to get some scanning done on the images from volumes 2-4 which need replacing.
I cleaned out some dead links and removed the link to the "Free For All Links" for the time being, because there's a bunch of junk links and I can't delete them until I find my Bravenet password. I'll probably change the whole thing over to a PHP script that's provided thru my hosting package at Vizaweb. No ads. My links list is so old. Wow. I don't surf Sailor Moon sites much anymore so it's a small list.
Small update this month. I've added the March and May Princess Room graphics along with a partial translation of the April Princess Room message from Takeuchi Naoko, as sent in by the webmistress of takeuchi-naoko.com ^_^ Looking at the official Sailor Moon website, Takeuchi Naoko added a second Princess Room message on May 27/05, but the image was the same (I saved it anyway but probably won't put it up). There are also links now to the previous Princess Room messages from April and May. No new message has been posted yet for June. One other update: added a blurb about the new Warriors of Legend book (see above).
[June 20, 2005] As with the rights to the various anime series, the rights to the Sailor Moon manga have completely reverted to the Japanese owners. Tokyopop has confirmed that their Sailor Moon manga is now out of print. Source: Anime News Network. Please do not e-mail me concerning this. Post questions at the Anime News Network Forums.
Warriors of Legend:Reflections of Japan in Sailor Moon is a guide to Sailor Moon and Japanese culture produced by two of the members of The Sailor Moon Soap Box (Genvid) and edited by the senior editor at Anime News Network. It takes a different approach from the usual Sailor Moon fan book, as it uses the series (Sailor Moon) to investigate Japanese culture. Sound interesting? Check out the website at warriorsoflegend.com. The book was published on May 16, 2005 and is available thru the usual online bookstores, including Amazon.com. The Warriors of Legend website has additional information for ordering from outside North America.
I'm really starting to dislike MSN Groups. For the second time in about a month, one of these groups has hotlinked my entire artbook gallery, along with other websites' material. It seems like the MSN Group setup encourages hotlinking >_< Hotlinking is such a common problem these days that many web hosts now have features to easily block referrals from other sites (way easier than editing your Apache server settings directly). My host, Vizaweb, uses the cPanel domain admin tool which has a "HotLink Protection" button right on the main page. I've now turned it on. In other boring technical news, I add three lines to my .htaccess file on my domain (if you own a domain, check if this file is in your root directory) which will forward all requests for www.mangastyle.net to mangastyle.net. Why? Because the www subdirectory is (gasp!) deprecated [soon to be obsolete]. Yeah, we no longer need it. It's dead. I've never used it for my sites anyway, but some people type www.mangastyle.net or www.sailormusic.net to reach my sites and they don't need to.
As promised back in February, I have now placed the contents of the Sailor Moon Original Picture Collection Volume Infinity online: visit Artbooks. I've added some new images from Sailormoon Channel to the various Art Gallery sections. Since they're still on the site, I will link directly to them: April's Princess Room, April's Princess Room - image from Toki Meka (Naoko's on-again, off-again serial), April Calendar. I've also got some more missing images from the Princess Room that were sent to me by Arashi and my new affiliate Betty Ann (arigatou!): Spring 2002, June 2003, December 2004, February 2005. And Mikazuki sent me the calendars from 2002!! I actually remember seeing some of these, so that's pretty cool.
This is a plug for my shoujo manga site, Tangerine Dreams. After a brief hiatus, I have begun updating TD again and have given it a spiffy new design. All the new manga coming out in the next 4 months is listed. Check it out! I am pouring all my energy into this site, please cheer me on! (do I sound like a manga-ka?!)
Content updates! I've re-scanned the first artbook at 175% larger than the old scans. The picture quality is much better. I switched to a new host recently which gave me more bandwidth to work with (see the F.A.Q. for my hosting details). I've been working on this - sporadically - for a month! Near the end of scanning I noticed the bottom spine had cracked open a little so I'm not going scan this book again. I don't want it to get any worse. I'm hoping my other artbooks were bound better (they appear to be) because I want to re-scan them too.
Thanks to some visitor donations, I've been able to add the very first Sailormoon Channel splash page from January 2002 (from Arashi) and the Hime-chan's Corner splash image from Sept 2004 (from Amy-chan) ^_^ Also, this month's Sailormoon Channel calendar has been added. It's kinda ugly =P I'll add the new Hime-chan's Corner next month.
I've received a couple e-mails in the past month about the "Parallel Sailor Moon" manga. There seems to be a belief that this is the mystery bonus manga that appeared in the Sailor Moon Illustration Collection Vol. Infinity, however it actually appeared in the Sailor Moon Materials Collection (probably I'm partially responsible for the confusion, since I scanned just about everything except the bonus manga from the Materials Collection). Anyway, "Parallel Sailor Moon" has been scanned and made available at sailor venus.has.it. Just a warning: the site is hosted on Tripod and has many pop-ups, so I recommend you view it in your favorite browser that features a pop-up blocker.
I've fixed some broken and mixed-up images in the Materials Collection. And I discovered that automatic retrieval of my mangastyle.net emails had been turned off for at least a week. Oops.
The new design for this site is complete. Feedback is welcome. My original plan was just to recode the existing site in valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and CSS, however I quickly decided to create a new design as well. [Geek-talk follows] The site now meets up-to-date web standards. I'm pleased to say that the markup is now well-formed and semantically meaningful, and validates perfectly (except for the third-party Amazon associate code). [End of geek-talk] I was also able to clean up a number of broken links during the validation process, and I added some recent images from the official Sailormoon.Channel to the Art Gallery. Since I generally hate saying goodbye to a old site design, I kept the previous one around thru the magic of alternate style sheets (see "Choose Your Style" further down). The Artbooks/Liner Notes/Artbook Covers have all been collapsed into one section with a new Javascript feature that allows you to view the artbook scans with Liner Notes ON by default, and OFF for quick image viewing/saving. Another great technique made possible thru CSS! There is also a new e-mail address for this site: michelle@mangastyle.net.
