Codename wa Sailor V is the prequel to Sailor Moon and features the early adventures of Aino Minako as "Sailor V" and her magical talking cat Artemis. The story appeared in the summer 1991 debut of Run-Run as a one-shot special. It was popular enough that Takeuchi Naoko began working on a new series featuring a team of sailor soldiers, Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. The adventures of Minako as the magical heroine "Sailor V" and her battles against the Dark Agency continued intermittently in Run-Run from summer 1991 to November 1997, for a total of 3 volumes and 15 chapters. The story concludes just before Sailor V joins the Sailor Senshi Team.
The original volumes of Codename wa Sailor V are out of print (purchase second-hand from JPQueen, Japan Book Mart, or Aclimate Solution). The entire series has been reprinted in two oversized volumes, following the reprinting of the Sailor Moon manga. Full details of the contents of the new books and scans of the colored pages are available at Sailor Dream. (Covers were taken from Sailor Dream.)
