We’re back online after a couple days downtime. I had to load a fresh WordPress install after Dreamhost was hacked on Friday. Everything should be working again fine.

Sailor Moon Vol. 1 Goes Back for Second Printing

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (October 14, 2011) – Kodansha USA Publishing is pleased to announce that Sailor Moon volume 1 has sold out in just four weeks, so the company has commissioned a second print run equal to the first, doubling the initial 50,000 copy run and bringing the total to 100,000 copies in print.

Sailor Moon’s return to the U.S. market is a clear success, with the first volume currently holding the number one spot on The New York Times bestseller list for the third week in a row. Reviews of the new editions have been stellar as well, with great reviews coming in from all over.

I confess that, following an initial spark of excitement and flipping through the first few pages and reading the translation notes, my copies of Sailor Moon and Sailor V are sitting on the coffee table unread. So very pretty, but I can’t see myself actually rereading the whole series at this point. The thought of buying the rest of the series is suddenly very daunting. Wonder how much of the sales numbers is made up of nostalgia-based purchases that may go unread?

Sailor Moon and Codename: Sailor V top New York Times Bestseller List

For the second week in a row, Sailor Moon Vol. 1 and Codename: Sailor V Vol. 1 take the #1 and #2 spots on the New York Times Bestseller List (Manga).

Kodansha to publish new English editions of Sailor Moon and Codename wa Sailor V

Kodansha Comics USA is publishing new English language editions of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon and its prequel Codename wa Sailor V starting September 13, 2011. The new editions, which feature new cover art, retouched interior art and dialogue along with extensive bonus material from Naoko Takeuchi, are based on the Japanese new cover editions published in 2003.

Kodansha Comics USA states that this new edition of Sailor Moon “will be completely true to original” and both series will feature:

- An entirely new, incredibly accurate translation!
- Japanese-style, right-to-left reading!
- New cover art never before seen in the U.S.!
- The original Japanese character names!
- Detailed translation notes!
